What Are Injectable Cosmetic Fillers?

Various factors cause changes in the appearance of your face. One reason is due to loss of collagen. As we rapidly lose weight or age, our skin loses collagen and volume around critical areas of our face, causing the skin to appear hallow, sag and deflated. The most common areas for volume loss are the mid-face, cheekbones, lower face, chin, and temples.

With rapid weight loss or aging, your skin loses it’s supporting foundational structure, causing it to droop, wrinkle, and become rough in texture, cosmetic filler injections are a wonderful way to restore your youthful, fresh appearance without surgery. Together with a personalized skin care plan, cosmetic fillers can help to restore lost facial volume and smooth fine lines on your skin.

Minor facial flaws can be instantly corrected with cosmetic fillers such as plumping up your lips.

The main substances used in cosmetic fillers:

Cosmetic fillers used are safe natural or biosynthetic substances that are gently injected under your skin’s surface.

  • Calcium hydroxylapatite: This is a compound that occurs naturally in human bones.
  • Hyaluronic acid: This is a natural substance that is found in tissues and fluids of our body.
  • Polyalkylimide: This is a clear gel that, while not being naturally produced by our body, is fully compatible with it.
  • Polylactic acid: This substance helps promote your skin’s natural production of collagen.
  • Polymethyl-methacrylate microspheres (PMMA): This is a semi-permanent filler.

Cosmetic Fillers Can Help Make Your Facial Features More Symmetrical

By adding volume to areas that are lacking and strategically reshaping features like the cheeks, jawline, and lips, cosmetic fillers can correct minor flaws and dramatically improve your appearance. They are one of the best non-surgical options for correcting minor to moderate imperfections , creating a more harmonious and a naturally balanced appearance.

What Can Cosmetic Injectables Do?

Being that there are so many different types of cosmetic injectables, the areas they can treat are different depending on which specific cosmetic filler chosen.

Cosmetic fillers can enhance or correct:

  • Add fullness or volume to your lips
  • Restoring hallow or shallow areas of your face due to rapid weight loss or aging.
  • Contouring the jawline or chin
  • Relaxing wrinkles and fine lines

What Is Difference Between BOTOX and Cosmetic Fillers ?

The main difference between Botox and cosmetic fillers is Botox reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lines by preventing the movement of the underlying muscles, and cosmetic fillers will fill those wrinkles and plumb the deflated skin to its youthful fullness.

These are other notable differences:

  • Prevention or correction: Botox can prevent wrinkles by muscle atrophy while cosmetic fillers treat the existing wrinkles, sagging skin and facial symmetry.
  • Treatment time: Botox treatment takes about 15 minutes while cosmetic fillers require more time of 30 minutes or more.
  • Results: A Botox treatment takes from 3 days to two weeks to see results. A cosmetic  filler treatment  results are instant.
  • How long does it last?Botox treatments last for about 3 months. Depending on the cosmetic filler uses, your results last for 8 to 18 months.

What Should I Expect After My Botox & Filler Treatment?

After treatment care plays a big role your results after Botox or cosmetic filler treatment. Points to keep in mind after your appointment:

  • Avoid Rubbing or Massaging the Area Treated: It is important to not touch or massaging the areas where your injections were made for at least 24 hours. This will prevent the risk of spreading the Botox or filler to different areas.
  • Resting Position: Keeping your head elevated can help reduce swelling. After your treatment, consider  sitting upright, for the first few hours.
  • Cancel Your Gym Workout: For the first 24 hours, it is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting. These activities can increase blood flow and potentially cause the filler or Botox to migrate.
  • Some Potential Side Effects: Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injected area are pretty common. Try to keep the treated area clean, watching for any unusual reactions.
