Breast Augmentation Rockville

Feeling happy about the appearance of your breasts and comfortable in your body is the ultimate result after breast augmentation surgery.  When you don’t like the size or shape of your bust, this can make you feel less confident. In Rockville, breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures Dr. Yang does, besides Brazilian butt lift, helping patients create the figure they’ve always wanted.

If you are struggling with breast changes in the shape, size, or projection because of massive weight loss, past pregnancy, or age, now is the time to consider breast augmentation.

Often, our patients feel self-conscious when their breasts begin to droop, deflate or lose their youthful fullness. Dr. Yang offers a personalized treatment plan for you after he has evaluated the changes in your breast contour to restore the youthful perkiness to your bust and help you to regain your self-confidence.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure performed to enhance the size, shape, and symmetry of the breasts. During this procedure, implants that you choose are placed in your breasts to achieve the round, curvy, and appealing shape you’ve always wanted. Breast augmentation is one of the best procedures for women who have small breasts and wish for larger ones, or those who have lost breast fullness after significant weight loss or pregnancy.

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, involves placing saline or silicone breast implants to increase the size of breasts and improve shape and symmetry. This gives breasts a more balanced appearance and enhances the body’s overall proportions. Breast augmentation surgery is customized for the patient’s needs. The type and size of the implants, as well as the technique used and implant placement, will be discussed during the consultation with Dr. Bennett C. Yang.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Dr. Bennett C. Yang  will make a small incision, usually located under the lower portion of the breast at the crease or fold of the breast. A pocket is created for the implant under the pectoralis major muscle. Once this pocket is created, the implant is carefully placed, centered beneath the nipple. Then the skin is sutured, using multiple layers of dissolving sutures.

Breast augmentation takes approximately one hour. This surgery is done on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia. Because safety is always our first concern, Dr. Yang uses a board-certified anesthetist at a fully licensed and accredited outpatient surgery center. We want to ensure that your surgery is as safe as possible. Following your breast surgery procedure, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home.

Most patients take a week off of work to recover. Breast implants require time to heal after a the augmentation procedure. Initially, the breast implants will look high and tight. It can take up to three to six months for the implants to settle and relax and give the kind of natural look that patients seek. This is something that patients need to understand before undergoing a breast augmentation. It takes about one month to return to light exercise before you are healed. You will need to wait two to three months before engaging in competitive sports.

Breast Augmentation Questions
Patients Ask Dr. Yang

A subfascial breast implant refers to a breast implant placed in the subfascial plane during breast augmentation surgery.

Using this technique, the implant is positioned beneath the pectoral fascia (a thin yet strong layer of connective tissue that covers the pectoralis major chest muscle) but above the muscle itself. This differs from the more traditional placements: Subglandular (or “over the muscle”): The implant sits directly behind the breast tissue/gland but in front of both the fascia and the pectoral muscle.
Submuscular (or “under the muscle,” including partial/dual-plane variations): The implant is placed beneath the pectoral muscle, which is partially or fully lifted/cut to accommodate it.

The subfascial approach creates a pocket by gently lifting the fascia off the muscle surface, then inserting the implant (often silicone, such as cohesive “gummy bear” types) into that space. The fascia provides an extra supportive layer—acting somewhat like an internal bra—offering more implant coverage and stability than subglandular placement, while avoiding interference with the muscle. This method gained popularity starting in Brazil and has become more common worldwide, especially among active or athletic women, as it typically involves: Less postoperative pain
Faster recovery and minimal downtime
No restrictions on chest exercises after healing

Reduced risk of animation deformity (visible implant distortion when flexing the chest muscles, common with submuscular placement)
Lower rates of certain complications, like implant malposition or lateral displacemen,t in some studies
A more natural look and feel in suitable candidates, with good upper pole fullness and less visible rippling (especially when combined with modern implants or supportive mesh)

However, it may not suit everyone (e.g., very thin patients might see more implant visibility/edges than with submuscular placement). As with all breast augmentation options, the best choice depends on anatomy, tissue thickness, lifestyle, and goals. Consulting a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Bennett C. Yang, is essential for personalized advice. If you’re considering this or comparing options, this is the “middle ground” that balances natural aesthetics with quicker recovery.

Breast implants are generally considered safe for most women when performed by a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon using FDA-approved devices, with modern implants and techniques being safer than ever as of 2026.

Decades of research, rigorous FDA testing, and ongoing post-market surveillance support this, and millions of women have them without serious issues. Breast augmentation remains one of the most common cosmetic procedures, with hundreds of thousands performed annually and high satisfaction rates. However, like any medical device or surgery, breast implants are not risk-free or lifetime devices. The FDA emphasizes that risks increase over time, and complications can occur, some requiring additional surgery.

Key points from current (2025–2026) data include: Major Safety Profile and Common Risks. FDA-approved implants (saline and silicone) undergo extensive testing for reasonable safety and effectiveness. Modern implants feature improved shell durability, cohesive gels (reducing the spread of rupture if broken), and lower complication rates than earlier generations.

Common complications include capsular contracture (scar tissue hardening around the implant), rupture (silent in silicone cases), infection, changes in sensation, rippling, asymmetry, and the need for revision surgery. Rupture rates for modern implants are low (e.g., <1% at 5 years in some studies), though they rise over time (potentially 10–50% by 15–20 years depending on brand/model).
Implants typically last 10–20+ years; routine replacement isn’t required without issues, but monitoring (e.g., MRI/ultrasound for silicone at 5–6 years then every 2–3 years) is recommended.

Rare but Serious Risks Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL): A rare lymphoma linked primarily to textured implants (risk ~1 in 1,000–40,000 for textured; very low overall). It’s treatable if caught early; smooth implants have minimal/no association. Textured implants have been largely phased out or restricted.

Choosing the right breast implant size is a highly personal decision and one of the most important aspects of breast augmentation. There’s no universal “perfect” size—it’s about what looks balanced, feels comfortable, and aligns with your lifestyle and anatomy. The final choice should always be made in close consultation with Dr. Bennett C. Yang, as he will assess your unique body and use precise judgment and measurements. Here’s a step-by-step guide based on current best practices (as of 2026, trends favoring more natural-looking results).

Understanding How Implant Size Is Measured

Breast implants are sized by volume in cubic centimeters (cc or mL), not bra cup sizes. Cup sizes vary widely by brand, country, and bra style—one person’s C cup might be another’s B or D.
Rough guideline: 150–200 cc typically adds about 1 cup size (e.g., A to B might need ~200 cc; A to C might need ~300–400 cc). This is approximate and varies by your starting point and body.

Common Ranges: Subtle/natural: 200–350 cc
Moderate: 350–500 cc
Fuller: 500+ cc

In recent years (including 2025–2026 trends), many patients and surgeons lean toward smaller-to-moderate sizes (e.g., 250–400 cc) for a more natural appearance, better long-term tissue health, and easier active lifestyles.

Key Factors Dr.Yang Considers:

Dr. Yang will measure and evaluate several elements to recommend a safe, proportional range: Body frame & chest width — Narrow chests suit smaller base diameters; broader chests can handle more volume without looking disproportionate.
Height, weight, and shoulder width — Petite frames often look best with lower volumes to avoid an “overdone” appearance.

Existing breast tissue & skin elasticity — More natural tissue means implants blend better; less tissue may need higher profiles for projection.
Implant profile (projection from the chest wall). Low/Moderate: Wider base, subtler forward projection (good for natural look).
High/Ultra-High: More projection for fuller upper pole (cleavage).

Lifestyle — Active/sporty people often prefer moderate sizes to avoid discomfort or interference.
Goals — Natural enhancement vs. dramatic change; cleavage preference; clothing fit.

Implants also have a base diameter (width) and shape (round vs. anatomical/teardrop), which must fit your natural breast footprint.

No two breast augmentation procedures are exactly the same, and the cost of your operation will vary according to the details of your surgery.

During your consultation,  Dr. Yang will give you an idea of what you can expect in terms of the cost of your breast augmentation procedure.
