What is Liposuction?
Liposuction involves the removal of excess or unwanted fat from the body. Typical areas for most patients are the abdomen, love handles, thighs, saddlebags, chin, and upper arms. Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss and exercise.
Something to remember- Liposuction permanently removes fat cells, altering the shape of your body. If you do not try to lead a healthy lifestyle after the operation, there is a risk that your remaining fat cells can grow bigger. There is a limit to the fat that can be safely removed.
The best results are obtained through a combined approach with liposuction, a healthy diet and a daily exercise. Ask Dr. Yang if you are interested in developing a multifaceted plan to remove the weight and keep it off.
How is the liposuction surgery performed? What are the risks?
Dr. Bennett C. Yang will make small incisions, and then insert a cannula into fatty areas between skin and muscle where it removes excess fat either using a suction pump or a large syringe. This results in a smoother, improved body contour. The length of the procedure will vary from 2-3 hours in most cases, depending on the amount of fat that is removed.
Once the fat is removed your selected area, the remaining fat cells will not grow back. Your body doesn’t create new fat cells, once gone, they cannot grow back.
However, your fat cells that remain can get bigger with weight gain.Because there are fewer fat cells in the treated area (as compared to before the procedure), other areas of your body which were not treated can increase in size if you gain weight.
