LIPOSUCTION – Are You Ready To Remove Unwanted Fat?
Schedule your confidential consultation with Washingtonian Top Doctor – Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Bennett C. Yang, MD
Liposuction involves the removal of excess or unwanted fat from the body. Typical areas for most patients are the abdomen, love handles, thighs, saddlebags, chin, and upper arms. Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss and exercise.
Something to remember- Liposuction permanently removes fat cells, altering the shape of your body. If you do not try to lead a healthy lifestyle after the operation, there is a risk that your remaining fat cells can grow bigger. There is a limit to the fat that can be safely removed.
The best results are obtained through a combined approach with liposuction, a healthy diet and a daily exercise. Ask Dr. Yang if you are interested in developing a multifaceted plan to remove the weight and keep it off.
Dr. Bennett C. Yang will make small incisions, and then insert a cannula into fatty areas between skin and muscle where it removes excess fat either using a suction pump or a large syringe. This results in a smoother, improved body contour. The length of the procedure will vary from 2-3 hours in most cases, depending on the amount of fat that is removed.
Once the fat is removed your selected area, the remaining fat cells will not grow back. Your body doesn’t create new fat cells, once gone, they cannot grow back.
However, your fat cells that remain can get bigger with weight gain.Because there are fewer fat cells in the treated area (as compared to before the procedure), other areas of your body which were not treated can increase in size if you gain weight. Please contact us today to learn more on how you can redesign your body with this safe and effective method.
**Please note: some of our patient before and after surgery images may have been altered to remove identifying tattoos and other marks by request of the patient. No other alterations were performed.
Liposuction is one of the most common procedures performed in the US. The procedure is performed using the S.A.F.E. method. This stands for Separation, Aspiration, and Fat Equalization. This method represents the state of the art in liposuction to produce a smooth even result. Liposuction is best used to treat areas of unwanted fat or stubborn fat that despite good exercise and eating habits are hard to lose. Liposuction is not a substitute for diet and exercise. Although the fat removed is permanent, weight gain can still occur if the patient over eats.
It’s important to be healthy before and after surgery. Eating well, NOT smoking are key factors in having a successful outcome. If you have any medical conditions, preoperative testing or evaluation by your primary care doctor may be required before being cleared to have surgery. Liposuction is done under full general anesthesia in a fully licensed out patient surgery center. Some patients request several areas of liposuction. This makes the time of surgery vary in hours to complete depending on how many areas of liposuction are being performed.
Most patients will need 1-2 weeks off of work for recovery and about 1-2 months out of the gym.the results are immediate. There is some bruising and swelling initially. Patients will need to have compression for the first 6 weeks after surgery to help control swelling. Light massage is also recommended after surgery to aid with healing.
